Love
Should I speak in tongue of man or host,
Of the gifts be given
to the most;
And should I give myself to the fire
And lift souls of men ever higher,
Without love I am a clanging
gong -
As pointless as the day is long.
Should I fight on with sword or pen,
Battling brawn and brains
of men;
And should I win every fight
And bring souls of men to the Light;
Nothing am I but a tink'ling bell
If
I have not love - bound still to Hell.
Should all else given fade away,
Darkness taking the light of day;
And
should evil rise, chaotic call,
And structured world begin to fall,
Faith and hope may return to above -
But of all
things, the greatest is love.
