I Dreamed A Dream

I dreamed a dream the other day
Of golden sun and fields of hay
With bubbling brook and flowers fair -
Of summer blessed without a care.
I felt peace flowing like a stream;
How I wished 'twas more than a dream!
I saw a figure dressed in white.
He smiled at me, bathed in pure light.
His eyes met mine, and in his gaze
All else vanished in faded haze.
I felt a love so strong and pure,
Giving strength and hope to endure
The world I left when I fell asleep;
The peace he brought was mine to keep.
No words he spoke, but in his eyes
I saw the truth, my promised prize.
I knew that man, I knew that face;
His blood once spilled to buy me grace.
I do not know how long I stayed
In that heavenly, sheltered glade,
But all too soon I had to leave;
He bid me not to cry or grieve.
He promised not to leave my side
For he would always help and guide.
As I slipped back into reality
I said, "Thank you, Jesus, for loving me."

I dreamed a dream the other night,
Again of field and flow'r and light.
Once more my Savior's face I saw,
And my soul filled with love and awe.
He looked at me, a gentle art,
And whispered words that touched my heart.
"I know sometimes it's just so hard.
I know you've been hurt, crushed, and scarred.
But never forget that I love you.
Just trust in me to see you through.
The days are hard, the road is long,
But in your heart I've put a song.
You hide to weep; I see your tears.
I know your thoughts, your dreams, your fears.
I know that pain and doubts give chase,
I know you long for my embrace.
My love for you has beat the grave.
My love for you has the pow'r to save.
My Father is your Father, too.
Search your heart, for my words are true."
His softly spoken words of love
Shone brighter than the stars above.
I smiled at him, he smiled right back;
I felt so safe, no dark attack
Could hurt me now, for Christ was here.
I was home, with nothing to fear.
